MK Customer Spotlight January 2020
47 years (and starting to feel it!!)
What bike(s) do you have?
Two - A now decommisioned Alu MTB special allowed me to learn being clipped in ... My only working bike now is my trusted Giant Defy - Advanced 1 ... already taken me across almost 13000 miles in just over two years - love it
When did you start cycling?
Cycled loads as a kid - including an epic Manchester to Liverpool ride and back on a Raleigh Equipe to get tickets for a football match in the days before the internet! Picked up the cycling bug again in 2016 (had dabbled previously back in 2009 - 2011) ... this time though I made the mental commitment to keep at it including through the Winter. Year on year since then I've been spurring myself to do more, with 2019 being my best yet at 6500 miles with some 8 centuries in that. Some of my best rides have been in the cold but crisp early hours ... seeing the dawn break over the West Pennine hills can't be beaten
How often do you get out on the bike?
I try to ride outdoors at least three/four times a week ... minimum aim is keep ticking at least over a 100 miles per week ... preferably 150. Many of my rides are often out early (5 or 6am) and I like to treat myself to breakfast on the road when I have the time
Where do you like to ride?
My favourite local ride is up to Slaidburn ... you can't beat the variety, challenge and quietness of the roads up to and around the Trough of Bowland.. and on a good day you can roll an 80 miler and for 50 of those miles hardly see anyone.
How long have you been coming to MK Cycles?
Not long enough!! ... I'm a newbie and only have been coming for a year ... wish I had found you guys earlier.
Any goals you're working on this year?
Unfortunately my Dad died from a particularly aggressive form of dementia last year, that took everything away of the man he used to be in little over 2 years. In his memory I am taking part in the Alzheimers Research UK Cycling Down Dementia challenge. I have set myself the goal of raising money by cycling at least 1500 miles through the most rubbish months of the year - Nov 1st to Jan 31st ... in all weathers and all conditions. I sincerely hope one day through research this currently incurable disease will be beaten ... and I would be grateful for any further sponsors to help me in raising money for this worthy cause ... here's the link. http://cyclingdowndementia2019.everydayhero.com/uk/martin-4
